Lewisham College and Southwark College took part in Skills London over the weekend, London’s largest skills event supported by the Mayor of London.

Held at ExCeL London, it’s unique in offering up to 50,000 live jobs and apprenticeships in one place. The event connects young people with potential employers, education and skills providers to give practical advice and information, and is a fantastic chance for organisations to showcase employment opportunities to young people, opening eyes to the benefits of joining their future workforce and helping the next generation to discover a future that works for them.

Over 37,000 visitors attended Skills London across the two days with students ranging from 14-24 years of age. On Friday 24 November, organised groups attended from secondary schools and colleges (year groups 11-13) in scheduled timeslots throughout the day using a travel bursary to attend. Friday’s event was a sell-out so even more school trips were organised for the Saturday than in previous years, with young people visiting with their parents and carers. Individuals and older students also visited with their friends.

The two colleges met thousands of people at the event with Lewisham College showcasing Media Production, and Southwark College demonstrating a range of vocational areas, including Music Technology, Fashion, Aviation, IT and Health and Social Care.
