Joe McElderry to Receive Honorary Degree from Newcastle College University Centre
NCUC is delighted to announce that singer, performer and Newcastle College alumnus Joe McElderry is set to receive an Honorary Degree in Musical Theatre.
Joe will become the first person ever to receive an Honorary Degree from NCUC. The award recognises his outstanding contribution to music and performing arts, his continued success across stage and screen, and his commitment to inspiring and supporting the next generation of performers.
A familiar face to audiences across the UK, Joe first rose to national prominence after winning The X Factor in 2009. Since then, he has built a successful and varied career spanning music, musical theatre, television and live performance, earning widespread recognition for his talent, professionalism and dedication to his craft.
Before finding national fame, Joe studied a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts (Advanced Performance) at Newcastle College between 2008 and 2009, where he developed the skills, confidence and passion that would help launch his professional career. The College supported him through the completion of his course while he competed on, and eventually won, The X Factor.
